Patterns Cal's POV

Just like that we are in Sam’s room and Sam is lying there like she’s dead. I freak out and run straight to Sam. She’s tied to the table and I can’t find the remote. Then I notice the gun, I can only imagine what has to be done when I see the note.
After reading the note a million and one times I still can’t bring myself to do  it. Everyone is outside of Sam’s room and I’m standing here with a probably dead Sam and a stun gun. Then everything stops. Before I can react I see Sam standing next to herself. I nearly passed out just seeing my old friend again. She has this kind, knowing look on her face.
“Sam is it really you?”
“Yeah Cal, it’s really me this time.”
“Why? Why did you leave us?”
“I didn’t mean to and just so you know I’m not dead, I have no idea what I am. I could possibly be a figment in your head and you’re imagining all of this.”
“This is not an imagination. You look so real, when are you coming back?”
“Now if you shoot me. You never did shoot me while I was tied down. I told you that eventually you would shoot me.”
“Yeah, and I promised not to hesitate and I did.”
“No, I knew you were going to hesitate. That just proves what a good friend you are to me.”
“What? But you said not to hesitate but to just do.”
“And you learned the second time. You don’t even know it but right now is when I'm supposed to risk everything that I can, to save you guys.”
“like on the machine.”
“Yeah like on the machine, it was meant to be this way, now to change this you have to follow everything I tell you to do exactly when I tell you to do it, otherwise we will all die.”
“Okay Sam I trust you but how?”
“Well right now we are in my mind and what day is today? The 23rd exactly when the disaster was to happen. What is happening right now at 10:59 AM? We are frozen in time, ready to change the future. Now do you trust me completely that if I tell you to kill me you’ll do it without thinking?”
“How do I know that I will get to see you again?”
“Come on Cal really? That stupid question, follow everything I tell you to do and I promise I will come back.”
“Thank you Sam, you have been the biggest eye opener in the entire world.
“Come on we’re wasting time now.”
After that conversation Sam told me exactly what to grab and be prepared for a warp in time. She took us two hours before the disaster. Then she transported us to her dad’s building.
“Ready Cal, this is how it’s going to work. I’m going to distract him while you look for this” she pulled out a detailed drawing of what I needed to find.
“Okay if he notices you, immediately I will stop time and walk over to you and hand you a gun. When I say go and he threatens to kill you show him where the gun is aiming.”
“I'm going to have to kill you aren’t I?”
“Yep but remember if you do everything correctly I will come back. I cross my heart and hope to die.”
“Sam I don’t think I can do this.”
“Yes you can and you will. I have a charm on the gun. Once you touch it, it will transport you back to my room in the bunker. When you get in there I need you to attach the stun gun to the other gun. Shoot me and in a day I will come back, I promise, but you must stay in the bunker, no matter what.”
“Why? I thought we would change the future so the disaster wouldn’t happen.”
‘Well yes and no. Without the disaster on the day it is meant to happen, I will die and not be able to come back. I will be brain dead.”
“That’s why you attach the stun gun for electric charge and something with the other gun causing the disaster will grow inside you and save you?”
“Yeah, you ready?”
“Yeah let’s do this once and for all”
Time started again and Sam’s dad immediately notices Sam but not me. She walks over toward him and he tries to catch her. She easily dodges him. Finally he catches her and I’m still looking for the gun. I’m watching Sam and she points up, I look up and see it immediately. Sam’s dad is tying her down when he finally notices me. He lifts his gun and immediately time stops. Sam came over to me and hands me a gun. She pulls me over slightly and time starts. A bullet wizzes by and I realize why she moved me now. I have the gun up and aiming at her.
“Cal first shoot me then aim and shoot him in quick recession. I promise you won't get hurt.” She says telepathically
I quickly shoot her then her dad. I crawl up and grab the gun.
I look around Sam’s room again. The patterns finally make sense. They were meant to be where they are right now. Aiming straight at Sam on the table. I attach the stun gun to the other gun. I set up aim and I’m about to shoot when everyone comes in.
“Cal what are you doing, this is your friend, you can’t kill her.” Says my mom.
“No, you don’t understand, if I don’t shoot her she will die.”
“Yeah and why will she die? What is special about that gun? Rather than trying to bring her back by reminding her of the good old days or of who she is?”
Before she can say anything else I say;
“Sorry mom I gotta do this.”
I shoot and hit Sam square in the chest. She completely vaporizes and I look at my watch. I’m too late, it’s the 24th I didn’t kill her soon enough. Everyone is silent now, just staring at me and where Sam used to be.
I hear something and I go turn on one of the security cameras that we have outside. I watch it on the computer and everyone huddles around me. We see every kind of destructive weather thing possible in our view. No one is looking at that, though, everyone is looking in the middle of the fray. There’s Sam hovering there, controlling everything. I want to stop her but she said not to interfere.
I just watch as she stops the destruction of everything. She is literally turning everything away from civilization. She looks like a goddess with her hair flying around her face and her eyes glowing a bright white. When I look at Moonlight he is lying on the floor like he’s dead too. He’s not, though, because all his marking are glowing. He is connected to Sam forever and I finally understand.
This went on for an entire week. The whole time I stayed at the computer screen watching Sam. On the seventh day she stared floating down and I knew that I had to go out there and get her. I just get up while everyone is doing their own thing and head upstairs. Once I’m outside I see the total devastation and in the middle of it all is Sam. I run to her and she is barely alive. She smiles and asks “Did I do good Cal?” Then she goes limp.
That’s the last thing she said for a long time. I wonder if she really was controlling the weather. I might never know. I pick her up and carry her into the bunker. When I get in there Moonlight immediately stood up and walked over to me. I went into Sam’s room and placed her on the table. I stayed with her, not leaving her side for the rest of the day. She risked a lot to save me, the least I can do is be the first one she sees when she comes to.
She was knocked out until about 5 AM when finally she moans and wakes up.
“Cal, what’s today’s date?”
“The 30th Sam. You are Sam right?”
“Yeah, did I save everyone?”
“Well I don’t know about everyone but you saved us and towns around the world.”
“Then I did what I had to for the world. Thank you for not hesitating even when your mom was yelling at you.”
“You were alive then?”
“Well I was almost about to die when you shot me at one second before my death sentence.”
“So, is your dad . . . dead?”
“I don’t know, we’ll just have to wait and see.”
“I’m just glad you’re back, I really missed you.”
“I could tell, I stayed with you the entire time I didn’t have my memory. I won’t forgive you for all the times you tied me up, though.”
“Yeah, I figured that much.”
After that we went our own ways in the bunker. Sam went and started on different patterns and I went and talked with my family.
We were just starting to get a normal life back, when who would you guess comes and tries to kill Sam. Her dad, again. Of course he didn’t die, he just can’t seem to die.
He came up to the house one day while Sam was out alone. She was taking a jog when he attacked her. She easily fought him off. He all of a sudden pulled out a knife and attacked with new vigor. He got a couple deep cuts in her, but she lived to see another day. She on the other hand beat the crap out of him and broke almost all of the bones in his body. And with one swift kick to the jaw she broke his neck finally killing him for good.
